I keep seeing, over and over again, that people are suggesting to
use hairspray to fix their art from smudging. That is the ONLY THING IN
ART that crawls under my skin.
DON’T use hairspray if you value
your art at all. You are worth more than that. Don’t cheap out because
you don’t want to spend one or two more euro or dollars to get the good
stuff. Fixative isn’t that damned expensive.
Handmade art always takes time. It takes skill. It takes a horrendous number of mistakes. It takes sleepless nights and years of practice.
No one wakes up one day and just says “oh, I know! I’ll become a talented artist today!” Yeah, that’s not how it works. It takes a lifetime to earn the skills. The amount of patience that’s required is more than the “average person” can spare.
I think this was a vacation that will be really hard to top. We took a train tour around Germany. We stopped in Hannover, Berlin, Heidelberg, Köln, Bonn, Frankfurt, and Königswinter. Beautiful cities, to say the least. Castles, bars, architecture, bars, boats, trains, bars, art, restaurants… And did I mention bars?
There comes a time in every artist’s life where they doubt everything they do. Now would be one of those times for me.
Logic is telling me that I should just continue on my path. Keep drawing. Keep practicing. KEEP MOVING. But there is this little emotional demon telling me that I am not good enough. There are others better. The details just aren’t cutting it. Why keep going?
Sometimes I like to play around a bit with photo editing. Simple color adjustments only slightly touch the things you can do with Photoshop. Everything from faux hi-def to recreating old photograph styles. Being able to edit your photos is a big part of photography. Rarely do we get a photo straight from the camera that is awe inspiring. Though, there are a few that CAN do that… and I don’t think I can ever manipulate my camera to turn out photos like the masters. So I have to fake it haha
I figured today was a good day to take the camera with me to grab a few photos. They are very random, but I love the snow, so I couldn’t help myself! I am hoping we get a little more snow so I can wander to another spot for some more shots.
We are home from our trip to Bonn, Germany! It was interesting, to say the least
First off, we all got the flu… Lovely way to start a vacation, let me tell ya. We spent the entire first week in the bed and drinking lots of hot tea with honey. After a while, I started getting a little cabin fever from sitting in the same room for that long. Yeah, fun…
